Rescue One More Project
Rescue One More is a project under the Department of Youth Corps that aims to support Ugandan children experiencing sexual violence with a pathway to Safety, Healing, and Justice.
It is believed that, in Uganda, more than one in three girls experience sexual violence, and one in six boys according to a survey commissioned by the MGLSD in 2018 are sexually abused.
With an increase in cases of sexual violence, the resources required by child protective services and law enforcement agencies to investigate allegations of child sexual violence/abuse while addressing the needs of the child are understandably strained. However, by working together with different key stakeholders, we develop effective, coordinated strategies to end sexual violence against children in Kampala. The module through which these different stakeholders come together to support these survivors is called the Community Action Team (CAT). With that in mind, our model is centered around establishing Community Action Teams (CATs) in each division here in Kampala where Cornerstone Development Africa (CDA) is implementing this project. CATs are multidisciplinary teams consisting of local police officers, probation & social welfare officers, social workers, prosecutors, medical and emotional health care providers who work together to prevent SVAC.
